Call for an act of vandalism

I need to get together a posse to come and help me destroy all the heating systems in the finer wine shops of our urban centers.

The other day, stumbling into a nice (would-be nice) wine boutique offering a hand-picked selection of eclectic and many low/no SO2 or organic bottlings, I was shocked at the 70F+ temperature reigning in the store, with all that merchandise out on the shelves.

Wine merchants: turn off that heat, and buy yourselves an anorak.

this must be the bain of the vin naturel world, Sharon.....the wine can be coddled all the way to the docks with temp controls and then arrive at a ma and pa shop where they cook it!

My favorite local store is a wine and beer bar that also sells retail. All the wine and beer is kept in temp. controlled storage.

You just pull up a chair, peruse the list for a glass of something nice to drink while you read through the list of 700 or so wines, and over 100 beers. Relax, take as much time as you need, chat with the very knowledgeable staff about what you might like, and enjoy a very much more civilized way of shopping.

Cheers,

Dave

Winemongers ought to take some lessons from Korean-run food stores:
save the money for heat, freeze the damn employees!

Great idea. I finally had to quite buying from my local merchant. The temps were just too high. It got to the point, i woudl only buy a wine that had not been in the store over a weekend.

I would sometimes lose the noble battle for wine shop cold, and I was the/a manager. I was routinely filibustered by a coalition of other employees and complaining customers. That's right, people with cold hands announce their climate preferences for all to hear, people who like fresh wine are very, very quiet. The latter probably just take their case to the internet, where it was less effective as support for my cause; could that be?

This is why you should only eat in the Sunset and Presidio Heights.

Your Semillon wouldn't have been much better if it wasn't cooked, Ms. Bowman.
