    TN: 2024 Kabinetten (Feb 25, 2026)

Saw that offer. Tempting, but a pass for me. A group of us tasted 2022 Trocken, Kabinett and Spatlese from Goldtropfchen and Ohligsberg. We all felt that Kabinett was where Kilburg excelled. Spatlese certainly weren't bad by any stretch, but the sugar/acid balance wasn't as compelling as with...

    Seeking Thoughts on 1975 Bordeaux

It's been a while since I've done any kind of side-by-side tasting of 1975 Bordeaux. In the late 80s, I put together a La Mission Haut-Brion vertical. 1955-1975. Even though it was the youngest, 1975 ranked highly with the group. I had it second behind 1966. Even though it wasn't showing any...

What did you buy a case of this year?

No denying that, but I prefer to have more variety in my cellar. Monetary constraints come into play. If I purchased a case of one wine, that's 2-3 other wines I'd have to pass on.

What did you buy a case of this year?

Not at all. I will not use that term in the future. My apologies. As far as my taste being appalling, you don't know that either. You don't know what's in my cellar or the types/styles of wine I prefer. Just because one chooses to not purchase any wine by the case doesn't mean that person has...

What did you buy a case of this year?

Well, you can't know because you don't know me. That only happens in person, certainly not through pixels and wine boreds. We've never met face-to-face.

What did you buy a case of this year?

This thread is about collecting, not tasting/drinking. As I said, I get bored with a wine after drinking 4 or so bottles of the same wine. THAT'S the ADHD I'm referring to. Having a conversation with a wine and that are not mutually exclusive.

What did you buy a case of this year?

I feel sentimental when I open a bottle of ESJ, especially when it's my last bottle of a particular wine. On Sunday, I opened my final bottle of 2006 That Old Black Magic. I no longer have 2007.

What did you buy a case of this year?

I haven't bought a full case of any wine in nearly 40 years. Call it wine ADHD, but after several bottles of the same wine, I'm ready to move on. I mean, I have bought a case of '21 and '22 Max Kilburg Kabinett in the past year, but that's 2x of 6 different wines.

    Turkey Day wines?

I'll be curious about this wine. I have a small stash, but haven't opened one yet.

    Turkey Day wines?

My extended family likes wine, but aren't geeky about it. 2019 Sandar & Hem Chardonnay, Santa Cruz Mtns. (13.0%) and 2014 Ladd Cellars Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley (13.7%). My son-in-law makes a killer Old Fashioned. I've watched him and I believe the extra touch is to add a tiny splash of...

    Latour with Guinea Fowl?

I was in Japan for 2 weeks in the last half of October. On the last day, my friend, David Russell, and I had lunch with Steve Goldun. Steve and David worked together at Woodland Hills Wine Company. Steve now spends about half the year in Japan for his current wine business. We talked about...

    need to replace a friend

I use the rule of 15 with a Durand. Better safe than sorry. It’s a must with wines from Ridge from the ‘00s decade. For whatever reason, the corks used then have a tendency to break using a conventional corkscrew.

    need to replace a friend

I purchased two waiter corkscrews from Trader Joe’s a number of years ago (maybe 10?) for $1.99. They’ve been totally reliable. I have a Durand, but certainly understand hesitating due to the cost. Prior to the current political situation, I bought a couple of knock-offs from Temu. $18 each...
