    2000 Wendouree Shiraz-Mataro

Brought this to a small dinner last week. Carried down on the train, opened at the restaurant (in hindsight, should have probably opened earlier in the day as it both showed very young and had quite a lot of sediment). Savoury, wild, herbaceous intense rosemary, eucalyptus, and minty scents...

TN: 2023 Grosset Polish Hill Riesling

This has been one of my favorite dry Rieslings for a while, except for ages it was a pain to find/source in the US. Then, once I found places like Wine Library or Saratoga Wine Exchange regularly bringing them in over the last few years, the wines on release were a bit odd and inconsistent. A...

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

2016 Ch“teau Ferrière was delightful last night, sweet red fruits and florality and more savoury earthiness on a medium-weight frame, so graceful and incredibly easy to drink. First experience with this estate, but definitely need more for the cellar based on this showing.

Ye Olde Riesling Dinner -- 4/21/24

I've had the AP #6 as well, though that was a GK Auslese. It was also amazing, but in a different way with more overt botrytis and tropical fruit. If you find yourself in NYC/upstate NY and inclined for a jeeb, I'm happy to pop one so you can compare. (Also have a couple of remaining bottles of...

Ye Olde Riesling Dinner -- 4/21/24

I love the '97 Zilliken wines. Had a few bottles of that AP #9 Auslese, drank the last a few years ago - every single bottle was outstanding.

Grand Sichuan, Jersey City edition (4/20)

some of those older MC Scheurebes and Rieslaners worked pretty well too. (but yeah, totally co-sign on the sherry.)

Grand Sichuan, Jersey City edition (4/20)

Jayson Cohen, Seth Rosenberg, and I battled traffic and PATH scheduling issues to meet Jay Miller at the Grand Sichuan on Grove St. in Jersey City. The food was excellent, though perhaps a bit milder than we expected, and we had some outstanding wines. 2018 Wittmann Westhofener Brunnenhauschen...

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

Well, I have a bottle of the 2005 which I'll probably open in the next month or so. Likely whenever I next feel like making roast chicken.

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

In the last few days - underwhelming Bordeaux, but a Chinon that delivered. 2019 Ch“teau Les Carmes Haut-Brion Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion So I've been hearing a lot more about this estate lately with rave reviews from plenty, including a couple of names on CellarTracker I follow. Was curious...

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

1992 Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie Cuvée Classique was a revelation the other night. I've had more misses than hits from Rostaing and often found them a bit oaky. But that was gorgeous, tons of green and black olives, smoky and meaty and herbal notes, and gentle red fruit. Everything I could expect...

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

2001 Merkelbach Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese (AP #10) was remarkable this past weekend - one of those wines that felt remarkably delicate and gentle, yet had amazing presence. Beautiful, classic Mosel Riesling that was in a great place with the fruit still very fresh and youthful, but lots...
