    CWD: recent wines (2025-11)

I’ve drunk more 2010 red burgundy over the past five years than any other vintage of anything. Although I have had a few meh bottles, as a general matter I think 2010 in burgundy for pinot noir is spectacular and for the most part still improving. The character of the tannins in that vintage...

    Three bottles of 2022 Rollin

A 2010 PVIdV opened last winter showed very well from magnum, despite being served at a large event in a Chinese restaurant.

TN: The Virtual Tasting #55 (October 16, 2025)

1988 is definitely a better Sauternes/Barsac vintage than 89 or 90, both if which in general very good vintages but more variation among chateaux. Note, however, that the winemaker for Ch. Climens believed that climens’ best was 1989. Having had multiple bottles from each vintage (and 1986), I...

    Buy Low...

Well, I guess I am the outlier here as CT tells me I have 62 bottles of Sauternes, 42 of which are halves. Of the 62, 41 are Climens (ranging ng in vintage from 1971 to 2014) and most of the others are also Barsacs. Other than some full bottles of 2014 Climens, birth year wine I bought for my...

Oh, don’t ignore the cookie. These geeks will complain no matter what you do. I have never assumed you were posting a note on the wine with dessert.

    Five Wines w/dinner (menu)

Did the wines served with the venison seem simple after the two Burgundies?

The light, delicate, elegant red thread

You are correct, M. Truchot used new oak only on grand crus and then only sometimes (and perhaps only on the CC).

    Rieslingfeier

I was planning on coming until I realized I would be trying to get back into DC just when it will be inundated with Trumpers. No way would i take that train.

    5 Burgundies w/dinner (menu)

Best cheese cart I’ve encountered - at Pierre Gagnaire’s when he was still in St Etienne.

The light, delicate, elegant red thread

A 2007 monprivato brought by cristi to dinner the other night was, at least in context, a light, delicae, elegant and altogether lovely (if still a bit young) red.
