    Five Wines w/Dinner (menu)

A few of my favorite restaurants have preset menus. I enjoy them quite a lot. It lets the chef really shine because they are cooking what they feel is their best ingredients and creation that night. It's also kind of an adventure when you don't know what the menu will be. Preset menus also help...

    2006 Clos de Roilette

Dinner in Philadelphia this past weekend prompted me to bring two CdR Fleuries. The regular bottling and the Tardive. Both purchased on release from Chambers Street and held in a temperature controlled cellar. If memory serves, probably case purchases. These were the last bottles of each case...

Assorted Italian TNs (July 2025-January 2026)

2016 Rovellotti Ghemme Chioso dei Pomi: I was genuinely surprised how well this bottle showed. Elegant on the palate, beautiful red fruit, a slight touch of grip from the tannins, beautifully perfumed on the nose. Wow: this really demonstrated the potential of the Alto Piemonte and the greatness...

A nice new Montlouis to me

It's actually pretty incredible , to me anyway, how different Montlouis is from Vouvray considering they are just across a river from each other. Wine is infinitely fascinating.

A nice new Montlouis to me

i stopped buying a few years ago because i found they didn't age that well. Robust suggests a rich flavor to me and unless it's a Moelleux I just don't identify chenin from Montlouis as rich.

A nice new Montlouis to me

Montlouis always comes across as more delicate than Vouvray for me. I can't think of a Montlouis, I've had plenty Chidaine too, that i would ever describe as robust.

A nice new Montlouis to me

Montlouis is the feminine version of Vouvray.

A nice new Montlouis to me

Pascaline turned me to that producer at Chambers sometime ago. Been buying it when it's in stock at my local retailer. It's probably the lightest bodied Chenin I've ever had. Really enjoy it. They make a terrific sparkling Chenin too.

What did you buy a case of this year?

I like Punta Crena Pigato quite a bit but don't see it my market too often. I'd say the Bruna Maje is more approachable young than Punta Crena's version. Not sure the Bruna Maje is something that would improve with age but we drink it too quickly to have any frame of reference. Bruna does have a...

What did you buy a case of this year?

First is Pigato. One of the main white grapes from Liguria. Never seen a Pigato from anywhere but Liguria. I think you'd really like it. Second is Rossese which is red grape that, I think, is only produced in Liguria. Medium bodied and works with a number of different foods. Dringenberg...
