Chignard often hits that for me, Jim. Tried them yet?

CWD: what did you drink while traveling?

2023 Vignai da Duline schioppettino. 12.5% and just lovely tonight. I visited several wineries in Friuli in 2023 and there was a sense in conversations with winemakers that Lorenzo and Federica were doing something special with their vineyards. This reminds me of old school Burlotto peleverga...

What a crazy world - Clos Rougeard prices

If $800+ opportunity cost per bottle doesn’t at least give you pause, then you’re operating with a different wine budget that me.

What a crazy world - Clos Rougeard prices

Sold all mine a couple years ago. Verset is up next.

Has anyone had a recent 09 Lapierre?

Not only has time done that one no favors, but it was also truly awful right out of the gates.

    The Beaujolais TN thread

2019 apparently marked a generational winemaker change, as well as some new purchased property at the very top of the hill. Will be curious to follow where the estate goes.

    The Beaujolais TN thread

2019 Pavillon du Chavannes Côte de Brouilly ‘Cuvée des Ambassades’ was delightful over a couple days this weekend. Listed 12.5%. Crunchy red fruits and bright acidity. Very good balance. A bit underrated producer in my experience. Nice old school feel to it.

Huh. Consistently cheaper in my market.

    CWD: recent wines (2024-04)

I second the rec. They’re very good and even bottle in fiasco if you are short on candle holder ambiance. Always enjoy the notes. Thanks.

Id put in a strong rec for Estro in Venice. A bit off the beaten track in a pretty quiet area, but excellent on both food and wine fronts.

TN: Return of Son of Revenge of the Real Wine Attack from Outer Spa-a-a-ace! (Mar. 24, 2024)

I love these wines as well and was a bit surprised by the lukewarm reaction to the Aurora and rosato. I have historically found them fascinating and delicious. Wonder if it’s a vintage thing.

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

I’ve always found Alliet a little on the polished side for my tastes. Sounds like maybe that wasn’t your experience?

    Domaine Anita Beaujolais

In my experience, they are lovely with age. Also in my experience, virtually no 2009s were lovely with age.
