NWR: NY Times Top 17 Bagels in NYC

This is exactly the place that I mentioned in my now-deleted response from the old site. It may not be in the viral lists, but it's in my neighborhood and the bagels are very good and there is never much of a line. It's our standard.

    Five Wines w/Dinner (menu)

Did a double-take here. Wasn't sure if I had missed the latest restaurant trend.

    This and That.

I think the new oak is pretty limited (less than 30%) and his wines have never struck me as 'oaky' (although not sure I've tasted this one). But I'm sure all kinds of things could go wrong in such a vintage. And, as I've noted repeatedly, I've not had the best luck with aging Louis Boillot...

What kind of interventions? Did you have better bottles in the past? I don't drink a lot of 2011s, but I know many consider it a challenging vintage for everyone.

TN: The Virtual Tasting #58 (March 23, 2026)

Interesting. I've heard the name but don't think I've tasted the wines. So many good producers. Had to do a doubletake to figure out what exactly they meant by Frühmesse, but I guess it's the vineyard name!

    Kastanienbusch

2017 Wehrheim Kastanienbusch Riesling GG Linear Kastanienbusch lemons and minerals. A loose and rustic wine, as all my previous bottles have been. Gains a bit of depth with decanting/air, and is fine for a glass to accompany food. But when I’m being picky, I select other things. 2021...

    Wine impressions 4-3-26

I suppose that had to happen eventually. Had been enjoying 22s for easy pleasure, but that may not last forever. Thankfully, they make new vintages each year.

Sounds great. And this is the just the 'entry-level' wine. Have you had the Cuvee Argile?

    Assorted TNs (February 2026)

Good run of bottles for a short 28-day month! As I'm sure you know, Pézerolles is geographically on the other side of Pommard, quite far from Volnay. But is often considered the most 'delicate' 'Volnay-like' vineyard in Pommard. I have to imagine the Voillot style also plays a role. Sounds...

A Dressnerian response we have missed in recent years!

    This and That.

New producer for me was 2024 Domaine de Gaubourg Felix Célard Anjou Blanc Grand Pierre. A 'basic' wine that is lively fresh and racing with the pale citrus fruits. Good with dinner and solid concentration for such a lean simple wine that doesn't grab my attention for too long, but I'd be...

The eternal quest! Speaking of which, has anyone tasted recent vintages of Tue-Bouef? It used to be a crapshoot but I was recently reminded of the wines and wondered if they could be a nice juicy pleasure.

    Isn't is garlic parsley butter?

    AdamsWein: So Fine am Rhein

Interesting. It never came up. But glad to hear the positive words. Also interesting. I can't speak to vintage variation, as the only bottle I tasted prior to the visit was '22 basic Spätburgunder. But yes, she said her '24s are darker and more powerful than '23s, so you may prefer the...
