    Turkey Day wines?

JL is on the Mark. Gonon was fine but certainly not exuberant as one might assume given its 2015 origin story. Straight forward and still structured with the fruit peeking out. Would wait for at least 2-3 years before trying another one.... Not my favorite Gonon St. Joseph by a good stretch and...

2018 Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Kabinett feinherb #15 score 1.5 : enjoyed but no rebuy desire pleasant enough with nice fruit but lacks tension, especially for a feinherb. i believe it's a 2018 characteristic. enjoyed for its' grape juiciness but would shy away from this vintage as a...

2014 Pierre Gonon St. Joseph Blanc Les Oliviers : 2 pearish on the nose & palate. quite fresh with balancing acidity. a bit oily. not ponderous like some Chave ones I have had in the past. last bottle from this facility but clearly has some time left at this plateau.

Maureen's Nyc moment: We have good bottles

2014 Pinon Les Déronnières is superb, simply the best Pinon of vintages prior to 2014 in that style.

    Tasty Burgs (May 2025)

We were elated that Yule was able to join our luncheon at the Zuni Cafe*, and we marveled at Yule’s lauded oenologic deductive skills. The whirring of his mind correctly landed at the fact that the red wine could only be the 1990 DRC La T“che. Kudos!! I concur with "he da man" YK that the wine...

    Tiberio Question

super helpful & thank you one and all. Ian D'Agata Wine Review, March, 2025 : raved about the fancy Pecorino. is he a good critic?

    Tiberio Question

just had the 2022 Tiberio Pecorino. A 3 in its weight class I think (I don't have a wide experience with said grape) and certainly a 2 overall. there seems to be only 2 ranges of pricing, one being $20-30 and the other being > $100. Is the latter group worth the splurge? Is this Pepe /...

Hi BJ, I still think we are talking about the same person. "John and Joni Trumbull were the original owners of Roses Bakery Cafe and the adjoining gourmet market on Orcas Island, Washington. John and Joni Trumbull owned the business for many years before eventually selling it to Erin Gainey and...

Preaching to the choir re : Stein. we drank a lovely 2015 Stein Alfer Hölle Riesling 1900 this week. but we have but a paltry 6 or so bottles from this weingut given a cellar space eaten up by so many other great German wineries. If I had started learning about wine 10-15 years ago, Stein...

"This, from John's cellar (of Orcas Roses fame) " Is this Johnie & John? A best friend of ours is quite good friends with Johnie & John. Once this trio visited our residence and J&J offered a Northern Rhone Syrah for imbibing. Fancy the intersection of lives..... 2005 Huet Bourg demi-sec ...
