CWD: 2011 Texier Brèzéme

Opened tonight with some homemade lamb pilaf to rid our thoughts of sedition and electoral madness. Holy cats! (Channeling Coad here) was this wine great. Nothing fancy here: just pure, honest Syrah (or is that serine?) in a finely rounded frame, no rough edges, just an intoxicating mix of fruit and savory elements. I’m sure that this wine can go another 5-10 years without breaking a sweat, but when it’s so appealing now, why wait? As usual, drink and hold.

Why wait, indeed. The bottles I've had over the past few years have been consistently excellent. St.J-St.A and C-R too, FWIW.

I've always found Eric's 2011s to be somewhat uncharacteristically irresistible from day one, to a point where I have apparently not been able to save any of the reds in the cellar.
As an aside, if memory fails less egregiously than usual, 2011 was the last C-R from the old (original?) vineyards, so if you are pulling that next, do so with ceremony.

The C-R 2011 has a very different, very olive brine sort of profile. Being from that old parcel sounds right to me but maybe Eric will chime in.
 
2011 is indeed the last vintage from the Viaillère old vines.
2011 Brézème was mousy and quite sharp before release.
The Dressner people were brave enough to bring this wine in, despite its poor showing at the 2013 Loire tastings, and I have to thank them for that.

So can mouse go away? I haven't detected anything like mouse in at least the last 3 bottles I've had. I don't really understand mouse at all other than it's hard for me to get past it. I have some mousy Duchêne that I'm hoping will "correct".

BTW, very cool seeing Martin's new winery going up, thanks for sharing that. Hope you and Laurence (et fils et fille) are well and we hope to see you soon.
