We need the annual D and D report

My son is involved in two different campaigns with his friends. They’re still too reliant on what’s been published by the company in my opinion, but that’s just dad being critical.

We've been using Roll 20 for online game management and even on the few occasions that the all vaccinated crew has got together in person. It has been an interesting adaptation from the AD&D I know (and the books I have). The rules are based on D&D 5e. They're more straightforward in some ways, which eases gameplay, but I do miss the AD&D I was used to.

Lenwë is currently in the midst of a pitched battle, barely holding on. Back-to-back with my friend Lockhorn, waiting for the cavalry to arrive. Will know more after Friday...
 
The 2019 Winter game took place, as usual.

We scheduled but then abandoned the 2020 Summer game. This is the first time that a game was, at least in theory, possible but we declined.

We played the 2020 Winter game via Zoom + Discord. We had a focused scenario so it was very workable.

We are planning the 2021 Summer game as follows: most East Coasters will meet in Delaware, West Coasters will be home, we'll use Zoom + Discord again. We have a full scenario this time so we have to work on the logistics. The big question is which Zoom window has the map with all the figurines on it... the players or the GM?

I consider that the game has continued unbroken because we did not miss a full year. (Note that we missed both games of 1999 because the GM was very ill but that's not the same as simply deciding that we won't meet.)

While we had strange circumstances in the Real World, this session was actually the denouement of a piece of a story arc that began in the 2000 Summer game. The tl;dr version: Last time, we finally found a particular sword that we were seeking. This time, I fought three one-on-one arena combats to get it.

The short, medium, and long versions of the story are all too long to write up here because you need to start with the cosmology, ricochet off a Cloud Giant seeress, and end up hacking the rank-promotion system among the Numbered Dead.

My son is also involved. Just one campaign, but a tight-knit group with a long history.
