Looking for birth-year wines...

Jeff Grossman

Jeff Grossman
...for a friend in London who was born in 1962. Anyone know a reliable shop in London with a deep cellar? (May as well buy it there, this ain't aquavit.)

Thanks for any pointers.

well, there's always berry brothers and rudd on saint james street. just a block or so from saint james palace. their clientele would no doubt include the royals.

berry brothers & rudd: rather than trying to order on line, i would suggest that you try phoning them.

in the uk -> +44 800 280 2440
outside the uk -> +44 20 7022 8973

Jeff, I doubt that BBR will have anything that old, although they do broker a very large quantity of wine.

You might like to contact Falcon Vintners or Blast Vintners to see if they can get hold of a 1962.

My pleasure, Jeff. You could also try contacting Chris Hambledon at Bacchus Wine Auctions and posting on the UK wine forum of Wine-Pages where someone might be able to help you out from their cellar.

Update: Bought 1962 Rauzan-Segla. If we drink it -- late July timeframe -- I will report back.

Will this be drunk with D&D?

Now that I think about it, that should be a wonderful wine. Having tasted both the 70 and the 66 in the past few months thanks to my wonderful friends here, and projecting onto my recent experience with other 62s, that is.

No, this is a birthday present for a friend in London.

We will not have D&D this summer because the GM is still sick. Perhaps we will have a game in December, though: I hear he is recovering.

That is to say, the group will still gather -- Finger Lakes! -- but there will be no game.
