1869 Zinfandel Vineyard Scott Harvey Amador County '07 -- Pristine cork, medium dark red, berry fruits, light spice, tannins fully resolved, smooth, age-worn Zin characteristics, mildly complex, balanced, staying power okay now but time to drink up, delicious. [E]

Scott Harvey Zinfandel Vineyard 1869 '07 --Medium dark, generous aromas with Zin nuances in background, nice balance of components, good body and fullness, dark fruits, restrained profile, as in the past a delightful treat, some lasting power but drink sooner rather than later.

Served with veal scallopini/marsala sauce, sweet potato fries.

Christian, definitely true. The diner I frequent has 4 more bottles of the 2007 which I'm hopeful (and fairly confident?) no one will order before I'm able to.

This is the original Grandpere vineyard, owned by Scott Harvey's ex, no?

For over 145 years these ancient vines have plunged their roots through twenty-five feet of multiple soil types in search of water. The result is an elegant, complex, first-growth wine. Vineyard 1869’s existence was noted in a deed from an 1869 U.S. Geological Survey, making it America’s oldest documented Zinfandel vineyard. The immigrants who planted these vines chose them from hardy stock. In the 1890’s the vines survived the nearly total destruction of California’s vineyards by phylloxera. Due to moon-lit nights of unregulated distillation, Vineyard 1869 also survived Prohibition. It wasn’t until 1984 when the vineyard was purchased by Scott Harvey, a German-trained, California winemaker, that the vines were lovingly coaxed back into producing small yields of high quality, first-growth Zinfandel. It is now coveted for producing California’s premier Old Vine Zinfandel.

Yes, I believe so. Curiously, Scott used to make a rather good Riesling from Michigan, also some familial tie.
