Barthod + Boillot = Clément

Saw an offer yesterday for 2022 Louis Boillot wines, which noted that Clément Boillot is now in charge of the vineyard and cellar work for both domains. Interesting dynamic and curious to see if I can taste any difference in 2022 Boillot.

But does this mean a potential merger of the labels? Will he really continue to make wines under the separate labels of his mother and father?

To me, this is one of the most interesting stories in Burgundy. Clément B-B will control vineyard parcels from Fixin to Fleurie including 2 1er Cru in Gevrey, a 1er Cru in Nuits, 3 1er Cru in Volnay, 2 1er Cru in Pommard, and then, of course, 11 1er Cru in Chambolle curtesy of his matrilineage. By my count that is 19 1er Cru vineyards, but no Grand Cru. Could there be some consolidation and/or trading?

I'm sure that French tax laws will have a lot to say about what happens next but I have no idea how that works.

I don't think the two domaines will merge because Ghislaine has a sister who has an interest in Domaine Ghislaine Barthod. AFAIK, though, Domaine Louis Boillot et Fils has no other owner.

As far as Clément's workload, you've forgotten that there is a Beaujolais estate, too.

Thanks for that.
