Has anyone had a recent 09 Lapierre?

Thinking about opening a mag next weekend. I know this is around when brett struck...a damn shame.

This one has a proportionately larger cork...Marcel was one for the those details...thinking it will be similar to 750s?

That said, I'm not always convinced there's total consistency between bottles in these big cuvees, given foudre by foudre bottling...
 
actually when John Gilman did a large review of aged Beaujolais in 2022 with us, he seemed relatively OK with the 2009, compared to 2005, 2010, VII, and IX.

i was not.

Not only has time done that one no favors, but it was also truly awful right out of the gates.

ripe beyond purity, strangely woody/astringent, heavy on alcohol, a little volatile. otherwise superb!

i am generally less happy with the 09s these days than your average comrade (e.g. second bottle of coudert tardive in a row left me exceptionally unmoved), and i can't recall the last time i enjoyed any lapierre unless the wine was less than 3 years old consumed in a soho wine bar at 1 am while distracted by fine conversation

Have you had recent vintages of the regular issue Morgon (S or N), comrade? I’ve found a return to form starting with the ‘21 (admittedly, I went several years without trying any, so perhaps the changes date to earlier than that).

I had '23 S and N in the fall and thought they were both delicious, maybe even more enjoyable at the moment than '23 Coudert Regular and Tardive, although I would probably prefer to bet on the Coudert over time.

But, am not sure it's a return to form, given the freaky new solar vintage style. If I had more initiative, I would try to line up a bunch of the names (Foillard, Descombes, Lapierre) to see if I really still place Lapierre behind the others, as I have done for so many years.

More like pre-2004, I’d say. We fell out of love with the wines ca the 2005 vintage, maybe a tad earlier.

I bought several bottles of '05 Lapierre N on release. I held onto them for some 10-ish years. One bottle was mediocre, one was good, the other two were excellent. I drank at least one of the excellent ones with a group who were Beaujolais geeks. All agreed how good it was.
