Anyone have 2007 Domaine du Cros Marcillac Lo Sang del Pas?

I've had a couple of previous vintage and liked it very much, but I don't feel like I have enough experience with the producer to buy a case without trying it. However, I do trust the Disorderlies to have some useful information.

Thanks.

I do. Give me a ring.

Hey, VLM, when you give John a ring, give me a ring afterwards and let me know what he said.

I'll call Jay Miller if it's anything good, I know he'd be curious too.

I will catch all of youze up tomorrow.* Enough of this. Though I fear VLM wil find some unwarranted excuse to flush my impressions down the toilet.

*Have had 03 to 06, but not yet 07.

I've not seen it around here. The usual suspect retailer has undergone a management change. I recall that it is imported by a local guy, Ed Addis of Wine Traditions. I've liked previous vintages, as well. I think it's well worth an investigatory bottle.

Fom Paul Strang's Wines of Southwest France 1996

"Not even the more modern of the private growers seem to have any interest in new wood either. Phillipe Teulier at the Domaine du Cros (SM) won't hear of it. For him, Marcillac is not a wine for long keeping and its fruit would start to dry out before the wood had time to finish its work. Instead he has a wonderful array of ancient barriques which he maintain carefully and lovingly. He is fortunate that, in the village of Clairvaux, there is still a cooper who is prepared to provide replacement staves and other spare parts. These barrels are a legacy from the days of his great-grandfather who started to assemble the present family vineyard immediately after the phylloxera. ..."

In my experience, you have to call vlm 5-6 times before he calls you back. I encourage everyone calling him to be persistent!

I like how writing in bold makes things look more important. Anyway, I haven't taken formal notes, but I've had this around for the past few weeks. My initial impression has been consistent with subsequent tastings: the 2007 Lo Sang is quite good. In fact, I felt it was better than the 2006. It has a great red fruit quality that leads into a balancing hit of iron ore and earth. Great acidity on this little guy too. There is a seamlessness to the 2007 that I felt the 2006 didn't have. The fruit and minerals are better balanced and the acidity is more refreshing.

Thanks. How would you compare it to 2003 or 2005 (the only vintages I've had)?

What is this? A $10 wine? Spring the bucks and report back. Unless you preordered it with CWC.

Nope, I don't believe I had the 05 and I know I didn't have the 03. I have had the 04 Vieilles Vignes bottling, though. It's similar to the 06 but denser and darker. In some ways it approaches serious, but I prefer the Lo Sang bottlings.

Haven't seen it locally, was gonna spring for a case or so if it was good. Not going to bother ordering a bottle, wait 2 weeks to try it then order.

I've got a bottle at the house if you ever want to get together and check it out.

I have already posted on this wine
IMO it is perhaps the finest vintage of the Lo sang del Pas I have tasted. It is indeed more seamless and with a finer acidity. What Jack Hott said is right on. You really get a very fine wine for the price.
