Barcelona (and Peneds)

I will be in Barcelona for a week in the middle of February. I don't imagine that I will have too much trouble finding ways to occupy myself, but I thought I would ask for recommendations.

Also, if anyone has any experience with exploring Penedès by bicycle, I would love to know.

Not included in those pages: the value of a day trip to Can Roca in Girona. Girona is, itself, an interesting city with some interesting sites, but the trip is worth it just for the meal.
 
Don't miss Monvnic, the unique shop/restaurant/wine culture center in Barcelona. Or the best wine shop in town, Vila Viniteca. Wineries making terroir-based wines in Peneds aren't very numerous, but try to visit Can Rfols dels Caus, Alemany i Corrio (Sot Lefriec), Jan Ventura, Pars Balt and (for bubblies) Colet.

I can only enthusiastically endorse Thor's and Vctor's recs for El Celler de Can Roca, Vila Viniteca, and the above mentioned wineries in the Peneds. In all of them my repeated experiences along the years have always been excellent. People such us Josep Roca, Quim Vila, Carlos Esteva (Can Rfols), Sergi Colet... no doubt belong to the spanish wine-lite, in the best sense of the word.

As to Monvnic, I had been waiting a long time before being able to go for the first time some days ago (and then, I could not help going back the following day again). And I was really wowed: this is a true paradise for any wine lover, with the widest choice you can think of, as well as the best service, and excellent prices. Particularly, Csar Cnovas as main sommelier does an outstanding work. I encourage you not to miss the place.
