Alain Chabanon 'Campredon' Coteaux du Languedoc 2006

Seemed a bit disjointed out of the bottle, but came together with air. Meaty, tarry nose, seems somewhat over-ripe. Rich and soft textured mouthfeel leads into black fruit, coffee and chocolate flavors, though there is a distinct graphite bitterness that reminds me of Bordeaux. Quite a bit of tannin, but the acidity seems too low to cellar this beyond a few years. It's ok, but not my style.

Bruno Giacosa 'Valmaggiore' Nebbiolo d'Alba 2004

Cinnamon and roses on the nose. Cranberry fruit and subtle hints of earth on the palate. This is a very clean and focused wine - very expressive of the variety. Great structure all around as the tannins and acidity make this an excellent pairing with our steaks. All in all a simpler, less powerful rendition of Barolo, but still quite good. I'd gladly drink this while leaving other bottles in the cellar.

Agreed.
Too bad the prices are up so much.
Best, Jim
