Alain Graillot "Syrocco"

its ok. fabulous by moroccan standards! to be honest, though, when i'm in morocco i seldom drink wine...

if you come by, i'm at the store 'til 6...

I've had this wine: Domaine des Ouleb Thaleb "Tandem" Syrah du Maroc 2006

which is a collaborative effort of Alain Graillot and Jacques Poulain (of Domaine des Ouleb Thaleb). Is that the same wine with a different label? Or a different wine from the same collaboration? At first it seemed like a big, southern vineyard, fruit-bomb of a wine, but with a bit of air it seemed to gain complexity and even some nobility. Worth going back to.

I've also experienced similar.

It was on the menu at Tini in Red Hook and paired it with cheese fondue and a roasted asparagus appetizer. I had high hopes, but this is not a high toned syrah. Quite simple up front but pleasing enough. Did not give it too much time to air out - hey, I was thirsty. Garnet had a whole bunch of these a long time ago, I do not know who in the NYC area is retailing this stuff now.

I have really enjoyed the Tandem as well (I thought the '06 better, more classically European in style than the '05). We don't have the Syrocco here so I would be interested to know what the difference is? A quick google provided surprisingly little information. The vineyards are in the hills only 10km from the Atlantic and that apparently provides enough of a cool influence to counter the otherwise blistering sun so that Syrah can do well. Sure this might have been marketing talk from the importer, but I really liked the result.
