Drinking tonight? Sunday night?

Marc Ollivier and Elie Boudt

It's Sunday. I had pot roasted beef with skirsch and family. We began by drinking Marc Olliver's 2007 Muscadet. It was like a desperately needed pipeline to sanity in these times. Thanks all who made it possible, especially Marc, Joe, Paul, Elie and Steve. And my mom and dad, of course.

Elie allowed a bottle of this to obtain in my shopping basket:

2005 vintage. It's made from a laborious selection of the usuals - Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo - as well as some Pinot Noir.

Noir.

It tasted like a scrupulously *managed* wine (clean, sweet oak, mostly), but tremendous with solid, healthy fruit, alive, bursting.

Anyone else drink this? Or the Pinot Noir Cava?

Why yes, yes, I did actually open and have a few glasses of the '07 Pepiere Muscadet tonight. Man, that thing is piercing. And awesome. That was opened when a friend came over after dinner. For dinner, which was some chicken paprikash, I opened an '04 Clos Roche Blanche Pif. It went well enough with the dish. Seemed to get a little lost, but went down easy. You can't know how happy I am to have found another source here that still has a bunch of the Pif hanging around. Just a great bottle of wine... both of them.

Holy Shit, that's a picture of Elie Boudt! With Marc Ollivier, no less. That must be from like twelve years ago. Glad to hear he's still pushing Pepiere.

Haven't had Maria Casanova Cava, but I've had a couple of other Pinot Noir Cava. Well, the one I remember is from Codorniu, a pink wine. If you're looking for a good, pink bubbly, you can fool yourself with this one for a bottle or two. (The one I don't remember, I don't think you could fool yourself with.)

Would I be drinking wine on a Sunday evening? Let's see, does the Pope smoke dope? You know, just something to help out with dinner. A nice fresh, crisp but not lean Coteaux du Giennois 2007 from Domaine Quintin. I can't make any representations about the Domaine, but you don't need to be a fool to drink the wine.
