Just lovin' it with a smoky lamb stew.

Even as a bourgogne it has a little bit of damp earth and a slightly bitter black raspberry flavor that whispers "Gevrey".

And it's getting better with more air (and, um, more of it in me).

I always wonder whether it's the air or the booze. Enjoyed 2006 Esmonin Bourgogne myself last night. Quite nice with my frittata with bacon and local veggies from the farmers market.

Me too. Although there are plenty of examples of wines that I either do not find better or find worse as I consume more. So, that should support the accuracy of my positive evaluations!
 
Speaking for myself, if I drink the same wine all evening, I will become very certain about how I sense it (and whether it will ever be bought by me again) but I also become more tolerant of its faults for tonight (the booze factor).
 
We have been enjoying Burguet's Pince Vin 01 and 02 for the past two or three years, since picking up a batch on auction. The 02s seemed too young, so I've been saving the last four or so. Both years have been really good, with more depth in the 02s - as you'd expect.

We bought a case of Bachelet's 02 bourgogne, as well as some Lafarge, at the same auction for about $10/bottle. I was just starting to buy Burgundy regularly at this time, and these wines really warped my expectations of the regional reds.

By the way, apropos Gevrey-based bourgogne, if you haven't tried Arlaud's Roncevie, it's well worth a spin at $20 or so. The 06 is drinking well on the second night now, even better on the third. Unfortunately, I think it's only imported on the west coast.

Spare me your pinot tears. The worst is, they infected me with the DISEASE, and I have since acquired rather more red Burgundy than I can answer for.
