1973 Francis Darroze Domaine de Saint Aubin Bas-Armagnac

round, smooth and warming. nicely layered flavors of caramel, dried orange peel and some oak. A touch of slightly harsh heat on the finish.

Lovely but I've always thought Charles Neal overstated it a bit in his review.

I buy about one bottle of Armagnac every 5 years or so and I'm getting close to the point where this one will have to be replaced.

You can always slam some at my house.

:-)

Yes, the problem being that I enjoy a small glass when I haven't been drinking all night. I still remember going into work the next morning after that wonderful armagnac at your place. Not fun.

To celebrate our little dog's return to health I poured out the last glass of this while listening to Iolanthe. Quite pleasant though, as always, a little lighter and less complex than I might like.

The excess heat on the finish is gone (evaporation of alchohol?) and its main characteristic is some lovely soft warm spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.).

A toast to you Joe!

Cheers to Joe!

And to Armagnac, a habit I can't seem to acquire. Smells and tastes like latex paint and the hangover is about the same. Don't know how you can do it, Jay, I am in awe.

Give that puppy some bacon.

, after a week of gastric distress of one sort or another she's sticking with boiled chicken and rice.

She's going to be so unhappy once she finishes the last of her medicine and she stops getting all that chicken...
