2005 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon, alc 13%, Graviers 80%,et Argiles de Coteaux 20%: $19: Opened and consumed over 3 days....fresh earth and a gentle smokiness on the nose...very pure, soft and floral on the palate with great balance and texture...showing well but has much more potential yet unrealized...I really should drink more Chinon

I suppose if ketchup can be a vegetable (by gov't standards) then it is not much of a stretch to add a "Chinon category"
 
I'm drinking the 07 Granges this evening and tomorrow. So far, nice heft and general feel, but pretty closed. Will say more after tomorrow.

$13 on close-out.
 
This 05 was so good a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful as it was, but I agree--lots of life ahead. I'm on a Chinon streak (though, not tonight).
 
My biggest frustration of wine purchasing over the last year was not buying a case on 05 Grezeaux in time.

I do sympathize with your position. Grezeaux is a remarkable wine considering the lowly third-place position it occupies in the official hierarchy. The value is about as good as it gets. I've gone back and forth in the last couple of vintages as to whether I prefer it or the Clos Guillot. In '05 Grezeaux gets my nod.

I do think Croix Boissee is perhaps on another level, but as has been pointed out previously, the last few vintages are just too tannic to say that with complete certainty. I guess I'm going on faith.

And who is already closing out 2007 Granges? I know this is usually the first to appear (on the west coast anyway) but I haven't even seen a bottle of the 2008 ros yet.
 
Whoever distributes for Louis/Dressner in central Virginia, I suppose. Picked it up at a smallish local store. It's only $16-19 in much of NY, so this isn't a huge markdown. At first glance, it seems like a very well-made wine in this range, though.

This is a great wine. I'm sitting on a couple of cases myself. Currently, the 2004 is much better but give this a year or two and it will be fundamental.

The cabernet franc based wines of the Loire are a staple of my table. I can't think of anything I would rather drink more often. The key is getting them in a bit of quantity and then aging them for a few years before digging in, even the "little" wines.
