Marc Ollivier, Ppire -- Les Gras Moutons, Cuve Eden

Fancy new label on the new 2008 Cuve Eden. Garnet just got this in today. Emphasized is "LES GRAS MOUTONS," less so "Cuve Eden," and only a small mention down below of "par EARL de la Ppire viticulteur Marc Ollivier". Has the look of a "second label" in that sense. Polaner's site says:

"This year's Cuve Eden is sourced entirely from the famed Gras Mouton plot, a parcel with a long-standing reputation in the area. The soil is deeply fractured gneiss (whereas La Ppire and Les Briords vineyards are granite). This type of soil, as well as a gentle slope toward the river Maine (about 1/2 a mile away) allow excellent drainage. Marc Ollivier has 2 hectares in the plot.

"This bottling is replacing Cuve Eden, which was previously made out of 1/2 a hectare of Gras Mouton and the remaining half from a plot with similar soil. Ollivier let go of that plot when he was able to add 1.5 hectares of Gras Mouton."

I've loved previous Cuve Edens and assume this is just as good.

we just got this in yesterday at the store. have not tried it since the last polaner tasting (barrel sample), but at that time it was incredibly pure with over-riding notes of minerality and sea shell. fabulous!
