'02 V. Dauvissat Chablis

Barb whipped up an excellent version of shrimp and cheese grits.. with it we had
2002 Vincent Dauvissat Chablis, alc 13%.. certainly no premox problems here.. rich and full bodied.. good texture and really matched the food wonderfully..Drinking well with a bright youthful freshness that promises many more good years ahead of it.. outperforms many single vineyard bottlings from other producers

This brings up a question... do others find that the premature oxidation problems seem more prominent in other areas of Burgundy more often than in Chablis?? I have a biased standpoint since this is my most well represented area in my cellar by far BUT.. I seem to have had very few bad bottles compared with the experiences of others.

FWIW, I just opened a V. Dauvissat, Clos from 2000 and it is showing very young and crisp with no issues that I can discern. I will hold my paltry stash of these until at least 2012.
Best, Jim

I'm a fan of Dauvissat but have had a number of problem bottles in '00 and a few in '01. More good than bad, but still... I don't think Dauvissat is immune from the premox problem.

Steve, I've also had less issue with Chablis, especially Dauvissat wines, than some other regions.

Marshall, hope you are well. Thanks for the input.. I wasn't sure I had the correct perspective to make a reasonable observation

Mike, Your data points are noted.. I only have one "Forest" from '00.. it will be interesting to see if it is sound. .

I got a bit of PremOx in an '02 V. Dauvissat La Forest earlier this year, but most people's experiences as reported in the PremOx wiki have not found much oxidation in V. Dauvissat's Chablis.

Mark,

I haven't yet torn into my stash of '02 Dauvissat so I'll hope for more consistency there. I'd also add that some of my '00 Dauvissat was bought from Premier Cru and appears to be gray market (tax stamps). No obvious leakers but maybe they saw some heat somewhere. One of the more grossly premoxed examples did have a pretty wet, spongy cork so maybe some heat damage caused the cork to get soaked out and that compromised the seal.

But whatever. I'm so damn sick of screwed up white burgs that I'm very pleased to have bought almost none over the past year or so. I'll probabaly break down and buy some more Raveneau but we'll see.
