bea 04 montefalco sagrantino secco

I don't know where it is going and if it shuts down along the way, but I tasted this at his cellar this summer and it is drinking well right now. This is not one of those tannic monsters that other sagrantinos can be, but a well integrated, even plush, velvety wine.

Haven't tried this one yet, and I gather from others here that there is ample reward for patience -- as in, 15-20 yrs -- but I have had very good luck in the past with their wines at about this stage.

Guess I should of slipped this one into my bag when no one was looking...

I opened a bottle at Terroir a couple months ago and it was really enjoyable in a plush, young way. Not peak complexity by any means, but a soulful bottle of wine. (Happy Claude?)

after a few minutes the fruit has subsided dramatically. its still there but definitely in the background. the dustiness is still there. stewed/dried fruits? leather beginning to show its face...?

mellowed out nicely on the nose. tannin much more in evidence. the fruit has reemerged, but, again, darker. wonderful, but, to be honest, the wine was most delicious and exciting in the first 5 minutes.

fun now, but if you have the patience, hold hold hold...
