Chanin

I had a very surprising domestic pinot noir this weekend, a 2007 Chanin from Le Bon Climat vineyard in Santa Barbara county. I never thought I would enjoy a Santa Barbara pinot, let alone pour myself a second glass. The winemaker was present, and he mentioned a desire to pick earlier than his peers. This is his first or second vintage, and he spent several seasons working with Jim Clenenden. I would imagine that some disorderlies would find things to enjoy here.

There is a website.

Chanin was my great-grandmother's family name (at least, after Ellis Island got through with her real name). She was from a shtetl outside Minsk, or thereabouts. Wonder if he's blood?
