'07 Pinon

The Cuvee Tradition is very nice this year.

Snappy and on the drier side, florals and primary fruit, and some chalky minerals.

It went well with a salad of fresh corn off the cob quickly sauteed, mixed with cherry tomatoes, lime juice, red onion, avocado, and a jalapeno pepper.

I guess it will age well, but I never find out with this wine, it is so tasty young.

We opened a bottle about a week ago. The 2007 Tradition is nicely crisp and lively. My wife is pretty sensitive to residual sugar and has been indifferent to some past vintages of the Tradition, but she liked the 2007 a lot. I got a distinct note of beeswax on the nose. Good stuff.

I've had terrific results aging this stuff. Never seems to shut down and always is on the upswing.

It's one of those wines that I can buy at my corner grocer, so I'll pick up a bottle and drink it the same night. Unlike Huet or Foreau which I have to order special, so I might get three or six bottles when I buy them. Then they sit in the closet, waiting for that magic moment, while the Pinon I drink whenever and not worry if its the right time to open it.

I like the balance of the 2007, and think this vintage will be particularly useful at the table with a lot of food. Sometimes I have trouble matching demisec (or sweeter) Chenin with food. Scallops, lobster, lots of cheese, after that I don't know. (Suggestions would be welcome here).

How are the 2006 Pinon Cuvee Tradition? Are they worth getting?

Yule, I think the 2006 is worth trying, but it is sweeter and a little less acid than the '07. It depends what you are looking for, I guess.

Finished a bottle of the 07 tonight. When you factor in pricing Pinon just might be my favorite Vouvray producer overall

Thanks Marc for the advice. Although I prefer zippier, acidic wines, especially when on the sweetish side, I think I'll give the '06s a shot.

It is too bad that the wine store I go to has sold out its stock of '07s (I blame Vaynerchuck and his thunder). Does anyone know where else Pinon can be found in DC besides MacArthur?

have you tried the vouvrays of sebastien brunet? basically the same price as the pinon tradition. had a bottle of the arpent sec 07 2 nights ago with some non wino friends. really racy stuff, great acidity and wonderful minerality. i believe no so2 added. 12.5% by vol. everyone loved it.

No, actually, you can blame me, and I don't watch web videos.

Oh. I just remembered a post here about Vaynerchuck plugging the '07s, and then a week later MacArthur sells out. I assumed causality, but I guess it was just coincidence. Well, at least there are the '06s.

Which store?

risking the wrath of the politburo, discovery wines.

No link?

You really shouldn't have your picture on the front page. Can't you put up a picture of Lee Campbell instead?

We went through a case of the 06 non-dose ridiculously fast. And it needs replacing...

This is the NV, right? You're talking this being just the current release? Or are they dating these now?
