Ecard SLB Narbentons '90 w/dinner

Peter Creasey

Peter Creasey
Maurice Ecard Savigny Les Beaune Les Narbentons 1er Cru '90 --
Dark red.
Bright bing cherry, smoke, pungent spice, pleasing earth.
Pure cherries and some berries, medium tannins still for underpinning, youthful, exquisite balance, complex, hints of bacon fat, spiciness, staying power.
Good length to flavorful finish. [94]

Served with Grilled Tuna with Orange Buerre Blanc, Cannellini Beans...

Arjun, I had no trepidation about this wine.

To the extent that one may generalize, 1990 may be my favorite recent (?) world-wide vintage. And the 1990 Burgundies, in my view at least, can be expected to show a youthful component (assuming good provenance, of course).

Reductio

Joe, You appear to have overlooked ("reductio'ed" out) my prefacing qualifier "To the extent that one may generalize".

P.S. I thought my statement would probably catch your attention!

OK.
One may not. It hurts too much.

originally posted by Rahsaan: Is that a typo in the vineyard name or did they actually spell it that way on this 1990 bottle?

Rahsaan, Interesting inquiry...which I have also been dubious about and checked and rechecked myself.

The spelling is in fact that way on this 1990 bottle...and also on the 1989 which I just confirmed. I didn't bother to check other vintages.

Interesting. No one ever said these folks were consistent!
