Bridge over the River Mosel

I just read this disheartening article written by Mike Steinberger about the planned construction of a bridge that could cause irreparable harm to the vineyards of Urzig, Wehlen, and Zelting. Having just recently discovered these wines for myself, I was, needless to say, shocked and a little depressed that in the near future I may never be able to taste wines of that quality again. I wrote a short little e-mail to the German embassy to protest the construction of the highway. It might not do much, but it doesn't hurt to try.

If one accepts the premise that wine is an important field of aesthetic endeavor, it is hard to see how the choice to build this bridge is significantly different from the Taliban's choice to blow up those two ancient Buddhas in Afghanistan.
