A more self-indulgent piece of film-making I can hardly imagine. Were it not for the dramatic scenery and great soundtrack, it would be a total waste of celluloid.

p.s. I love Death Valley and Zabriskie Point is well worth visiting. Just 86 the film.

I was living and breathing Pink Floyd for about 10 hours a day in high school and still couldn't make it through this movie. Just awful. And it turns out the best Floyd contributions didn't even make it into the movie!

Have never seen La Valle, but would love to. Obscured by Clouds is, most likely, my favorite album by the Floyd with "Mudmen" a particular standout. The film would have to be pretty godawful (not out of the realm of possibility) for me not to enjoy it.

It is nothing compared to L'Aventura or Blow Up but there are a few things - the American-ness of the movie, the developer scenes (Antonioni is very architectural and the dialogue there is perfectly stereotypical), the plane scenes, and of course, the blow up. I can never get enough of Antonioni's landscapes and there are some breathtaking shots. Plus, the soundtrack.
What is it that they always say about the actors in Antonioni - that they're just part of the scenery? Antonioni takes that to an extreme here with two novices - with predictable results - it might be best to watch with the sound off. Of course, then you'd miss the soundtrack.

Bresson did the same and came up with Dominique Sanda and Anne Wiazemsky.
Novices can be pretty amazing.

37 years later, I might be tempted to try watching it again.
Of course, the soundtrack has some Floyd classics such as Green is the Colour, Cymbaline (a live staple on their 1970 and 1971 tours), and Nile Song.
Larry (who, in high school, literally wore out the grooves on all things Pink Floyd encompassing A Saucerful of Secrets through Obscured by Clouds)
