In longhand, the 2000 Chandon de Brailles Pernand-Vergelesses Ile-de-Vergelesses blanc Premier Cru.

Lovely stuff in any event. Almost buttery rich, yet well delineated. Mineral and white fruits. Become leaner and more mineral and delineated as it sits in the glass. I sure hope I've got more.

Funny, did you see my request below for info on whether people had ever tasted this?

Sounds like fun and what I would expect given their red wines. Do you also buy in other vintages? Do you think it's worth the $50-60 I see it sold for here in Cambridge.

Rahsaan, no I didn't notice...the bottle has been in the wine fridge for a month now, waiting for some more moderate temperatures. I almost took it to my friend's cabin this weekend (but the Benaza Godello was a MUCH better match with the steelhead meuniere -- that wine has a SERIOUS lemon streak).

Whether it's worth $50-60...depends, of course, on your budget and preferences. I paid less at the domaine, but for export market Cote d'Or blanc, you'll have a tough time beating it in that price range. It's not 4x as good as Briords, but then we didn't really expect that, did we?

True indeed, I guess it fits right in for white Burgundy. But the red IdV is closer to $40, and red Burgundy is not exactly a cheap category. Which made me all the more hesitant to explore.

I see Library and Gordon carrying the 07 at near 40 for the red; earlier years tend towards 50 and up.

Has any one tried Bize's 07 SlB blanc Vergelesses? I've heard it's unusually good.

What's the red equivalent of Briords, in terms of value? Clos Roche Blanche Gamay?

Actually, it would be

2000 Chandon de Brailles Pernand-Vergelesses Blanc 1er Cru Ile-de-Vergelesses

I've tried the 2005 Bize SlB Vergelesses blanc, and while it was obviously too young, I noticed a fair amount of oak flavor. The fruit was also very ripe (pineapple flavors) but it had great concentration and decent acidity. Haven't tasted the 2007. I didn't love the '05, but it was too young to be fair.

My two current value reds are the 07 Clos Roche Blanche Cabernet which is mostly red fruited, some pleasant Cab green flavors, and soft tannic structure. It is way too easy to drink, and I think it was about $14. Very versatile wine with food, we had it with couscous and spinach cheese turnovers one night, and with steak and Chanterelles last night.

The other one is the '07 Cros du Marcillac Lo Sang del Pais for $11. Fresh acidity, peppery and red fruited and also ready to drink.

Might this be Disorder's first instance of kiss-and-make-up sex?

Maybe the Esteras Bobal VV? Or the Brun Brouilly for a few $$ more?
