No More Nouveau event

Arlequin is doing the following on Thurs. 11/19:

From the event announcement: "Arlequin Wine Merchant will host an evening of more than ten wine tastings celebrating the "real" Beaujolais from award-winning Cru Beaujolais producers including Marcel Lapierre, Guy Breton, Pierre Chermette, Jean Paul Brun, Alain Coudert, John-Paul Thvenet and more. Cru Beaujolais wines from these featured producers are made the "old" wayfermented on natural yeasts and bottled unfiltered. These wines are richer, broader and denser reds than the Beaujolais Nouveau most wine drinkers are familiar with, which is light and sweet with raspberry notes." 6pm8pm. $15; pay at the door.

I have to miss the Dressner tasting, but I don't intend on missing this one.
 
i am curious why the announcement compares these guys' cru beaujolais with beaujolais nouveau, rather than, say, other producers' cru beaujolais.
 
Wine shop writeups on cru Beaujolais never seem to fail to include some kind of Nouveau disclaimer.

In this case they are going a little further in giving Nouveau the finger by serving cru B. on Beaujolais Nouveau day.
 
thanks Slaton...the need for a beaujolais 101 disclaimer ("cru beaujolais is not bn") i understand. in terms of ad copy, clarity and effectiveness, i have trouble with that last sentence, mainly. wish i could attend tho.

all these producers have a nouveau, pretty good ones too...
 
Outside of Brun, do any Nouveau from these producers make it into the US? I agree with Joel, tasting the Cru's along with the respective Nouveau would be very entertaining.

I didn't like the wording either, but that's what happens when you let PR people do their job rather than doing it yourself.

Regardless, there will be some fantastic wines this Thursday.
 
One of the best Loire gamays I have ever tasted was a nouveau from Thierry Puzelat. It was precise, focused and tasted like wine most importantly. I always find the hate against Beaujoulais nouveau misplaced...good producers make good nouveaus.

i think i saw one of those here online in japan and was curious about it. i totally agree with your last sentence too.
