Aldo Biale

Bree

Allan Bree
Aldo Biale, longtime Napa winegrower, partner in Robert Biale Vineyards and patriarch of the family, passed away in his sleep Saturday morning.

I think the family would appreciate your words of sympathy and respect.

He will, to say the least, be missed.

It's a tough bunch here. The Biale family have been around here in the valley for a long time. Good people. Aldo's vineyard is in the middle of a nice residential neighborhood surrounded by homes but still growing some great Zin fruit. The Biale family could have sold the vineyard to developers for 4 or 5 times the value it has as a vineyard today but Aldo wouldn't even consider it. You guys are always yapping about tradition. Well here you are.!!!!! Peace.

It's been a while, but I had some good wines from them in the day. Never knew them on a personal level, I'm sorry to say.

I visited the Biale home and vineyards a few years ago. The congenial Al Perry showed us around the winemaking facility up at the Hendry Ranch, where the Biale folks rent space.

We tasted from a small batch run of Petite Sirah that was fermenting in fiberglass tubs out in the open air without temperature control (Cornelissen isn't that crazy, I guess), and everyone was very nice to us.

I am sorry to hear that the elder Mr. Biale has passed away.
