Quick Hello from Lyon

I only have a moment before heading out, but wanted to say hi. My wife and I are visiting with some friends in Lyon. The weather the last three days in Cote Rotie and Beaujolais has been sunny and dry, and the harvest is well underway in Beaujolais, and just started in Cote Rotie. There was a lot of mildew in Condrieu and Rostaing said he wouldn't bottle an AOC Condrieu this year. He seemed pleasantly surprised by the Cote Rotie. It had decent color and I while I didn't catch what the brix was, he thought the wine for the cuvee classique would finish at 12%. We watched the workers harvesting the grapes in Morgon yesterday. In Beaujolais, at least in the South, I don't believe the hail damage was too bad. Hopefully the warm, sunny days at the end of September will salvage what has been a cool wet summer here. I'll have a little more to post when I get back this weekend.

Can anyone recommend a good wine store in Lyon?

Best,
Marc

Sounds good.

Can anyone recommend a good wine store in Lyon?

It's a small town, they should be easy to spot :)

There were a couple of big fancy shops where you could get all the Guigal and Bordeaux you want, someone should be able to direct you there.

I also found this place really interesting

antic wine - Georges is a character for sure, and he usually has some interesting stuff. He's good at figuring out what you like and steering you to something you might like but have never heard of. I guess that makes him good at his job.

Malleval would be one of those places Rahsaan mentions in his second paragraph.

This place looks interesting, I was trying to get there on my last visit but failed: www.vercoquin.com

Dude, I had no idea you were going there. We almost overlapped! Have a great time!

Antic Wine is indeed antic - make sure you make it down into the cave.

Keep us posted on your progress or at least share your tales when you get back...
