CWD: 1997 Marcarini Barolo La Serra

Lee Short

Lee Short
Popped and poured. Drinking quite nicely out of the bottle, a great match for a late lunch of bread, salami, and reggiano with balsamico. Beautiful plush texture. Complex wine.

A few hours later, with dinner, the wine is showing a lack of freshness around the edges. Still quite good, but if I had any more I'd drink them sooner.

A knowledgeable & respected acquaintance was recently complaining that Barolos and Barbarescos have overly short drinking windows. Congrats on hitting it!

I can see that. I've had a number of them changed perceptibly in a short time frame, and the older they are, the more negatively affected (with air), whereas younger nebbiolos benefit from airing. But...you catch it correctly, and it's like Leonardo's tangerine-flavored lollipop in the 2002 Pinocchio: "the flavor of heaven!"
