CWD: stuff at a restaurant

Mark Anisman

Mark Anisman
enjoyable meal at a french style restaurant. we felt obligated to include only french wines (based on land under the auspices of the Napolelonic corporation).

99 Knoll riesling Smaragd Schutt
tremendous wine with great cut and length. excellent persistence of fruit
and minerals.
89 pts
98 Muller Catoir riesling spat Burgergarten
i think one of the best Pfalz spatleses around. beautiful balnacing act of
fruit/sweetness/acidity
97 pts
95 Raveneau Clos
had troubles opening up. not sure ever did so for me. for others? could be
great. but must rate lower given i judge on what is there, and not
potential
83 pts
89 Huet Constance
the unbearable lightness of being. all there. some secondary changes. still
fresh, young and nimble on its' feet.
101 pts
85 de Montille Mitans
super wine. older but wiser. lacks a bit in the follow thru.
89 pts
90 Pousse D'Or Bousse D'Or
all the good of the 90's. ripe fruit but not over the top or pruney.
persistent mid palate.
89 pts
90 Dujac Combottes
Dujac signature with stemminess (to quote a participant to the true
north of me). again, avoids the over the top fruit that dumbs down many a
90 red Burg.
89 pts
93 Lafarge Chenes
essence of great burg. chiselled detail. all structural components in
balance. still needs more time to be complete the magic show.
97 pts
93 Rousseau Chambertin
For some, the bong of the afternoon. i downgraded only because of the
oak signature. i think it took away a bit. probably more complex and
deeper ingrained fruit component than the Lafarge.
89 pts
97 Huet Constance
a young pup. there were questions of cork taint. i can definitively put the
kabosh on that possibility. then again, i am quite insensitive to this malady.
delicious, but does not have that genie say kwa that lives in the 89.
97 pts

scoring system: given these were all prime wines, i have used only prime numbers up to 100 (i want to be conventional)

Stop scaring away the promising newbies!

Spelling, math and geography are not prerequisites for presidents, or vice presidents, why should they matter here?

Best,
Joe

Well, it is tough to compete with the 89 Huet which comes with a genie in the bottle. My last bottle of 89 Huet had a Wanda Sykes genie, so she was more of a genie "say whaaa?"

So wait, the maybe-corked '97 Constance wasn't quite as good as the not-corked '89 Constance?

You're just jealous because you can't put the kibosh on corked wines like Mark and his djinns can.

Stop scaring away the promising newbies!

Oh dear, have we changed newbie protocol now? I was under the impression that one of the definitions of 'promising newbie' was one who was unable to be dissuaded by standard-issue pedantic nitpickery. Didn't you see Fight Club?

The Huet;
101. Yes, that good!
And I bought 5 bottles when they were first released in these United States, and i was way beyond the
7 year itch in wanting to try one. Given the high esteem I held of the assembled cronies, I grabbed
for the ring.
And I risk telling you all that I drank a Huet too young, but I feel the love here and hope and trust i will still be accepted.
