The 2001 Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet "Clos St. Jean" was in a perfect spot. Nose of major sous bois, light cherry, some spice, tree bark and other aromas of that ilk. Very pleasing nose. The palate was elegant and resolved with juicy fruit, good acids and a long finish. The elegance was the part that stood out the most. Slightly grainy tannins but perfectly ripe. Drinking perfectly.
The 2007 Schloss Lieser Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Kabinett was like a rock star on this day. Soaring nose of confectionary notes, slate, lemon curd and a hint of petrol starting to develop. The palate had good cut, a touch of creaminess, slatey flavors and lovely elegance. The acid was right there and seemed more present than in previous tastings. A great showing for this wine.
