2006 Domaine Jean-Louis Tribouley Vin de Pays des Ctes Catalanes Orchis, alc 14%, $25....promising nose of violets with sweet fruit....the palate is dry and serious with great (black and blue) berry flavors amidst moderate tannins...very interesting but still very youthful...great potential...really nice...

I just had the 2008 Orchis last night and it was fucking awful. Beyond overripe, hot, tiring, undrinkable. I've had the 07 and, while huge, it was all right, but man the 08 is a mess.

Day 2 was even better...great with steak, corn, fresh green beans

The 08 was ripe to the point where the fruit took on an almost peachy character, beyond simple blackberry dominance, such that the grainily tannic finish seemed almost like powdered sugar. Tribouley must have waited well into the "phenologically ripe" period before picking. Blech.
