Perusing a wine list and this is their one and only Loire red: Bourgueil Busardires 1993 Domaine de la Chevalerie. Anyone know it or had it?

Jeff, I can't recall having it but I've seen mixed reviews on it varying from decent to very good in a Bordeaux (Cabernet Franc) style.

Jeff, I would try it.

Don't know anything about the 1993 but the wines these days are bio, and the estate gets mentioned in hip french publications (for whatever that's actually worth). I've seen tasting notes for the 2006 and 2007.

The Busardieres site has old vines on argillo-calcaire.

Up early?

I haven't had the site-designated cuvee but the standard bottling from a riper vintage (97) was fine. A bit leafy and light but drinkable.

There was a fair bit of this wine floating around at auction about a year ago and I ended up with a case. Pete's description sounds right, although there is a bit of a greener streak that says more Loire than Bordeaux to me. I paid something like $10 per bottle and though that was a good deal, but the wine doesn't wow anyone.

Jeff,
This is Pierre Caslot. I don't seem to be able to dig up a note on the 93, but the 96 of this is amazing. Next time we have a party in the cellar, remind me to open one. We once ordered it at a restaurant in Tours alongside 96 Clos Rougeard, and they were neck in neck. Here is the bad news, however: I don't know who's been handling these wines on the east coast over the years, but they have not done a great job; quite a bit of variation, displaying clear symptoms of storage issues. Perhaps you'll get lucky. Give it some air, regardless.
