Talk of Eric Rohmer has prompted me to come out of the woodwork. (Yes, I was hidden in the woodwork. Yes, I was.)

Rohmer is in my top tiny tier of favorite film directors ever. The only film of his I don't like is "La Collectionneuse." Otherwise, have at thee.

It pains me to see him considered a "talky," somehow difficult director. We're not talking late-period Godard, here! There is so much humor and humanity in Rohmer's films, so much story, that one always delights.

Plus, Fabrice Lucchini is a windfall for any director.

Not sure why I posted. File under rant, I guess.
 
Rohmer is only a difficult director for people who don't like to watch interesting, intelligent people actually talk to each other. Well, OK, that's probably a lot of people. But with regard to this board, he made the only movie I've ever seen in which the yield of hectoliter per hectare and what to call a female winemaker (viticulteuse or vigneronne) were significant plot points. And the vigneronne in question made a Cote de Rhone, so I wanted to marry her. I've loved every movie of his I've ever seen. I haven't seen La Collectioneuse though. I think I'll put a whole bunch of Rohmer on my Netflix line.

Best to just go ahead and buy the entire Criterion ed. Moral Fables collection, methinks. Not that spendy.
 
What has become of Levi? I'm shocked he hasn't risen to any of this bait.

Also, we need his review of '82 CSH.

I've never seen the movie and would love to find a source.

I tried winesearcher.com and came up with nothing.

The DVD on Amazon is too expensive and only in French format, but you can get a used VHS tape for 3 bucks if you can still play the technology.
 
Late-period Godard is not talky. Just the opposite, actually. Really, really the opposite.

Regarding The Collector Girl, I personally have found it hard to watch at times (I don't like to see people being mean, except here, I guess), but have returned to it time and again. Usually I have problems with the male characters and their decisions, but then that was the point of the Moral Tales project wasn't it (at least after the fact). Pauline at the Beach was great. Several things in there I think about regularly (interpret as you wish). Full Moon Over Paris never gets the love it should.

'82 CSH was stunning and a real treat. I'm very glad I was there.
 
I knew I was wording it wrong. Late Godard is bad, but not for that reason; yes, the opposite (difficult, only, should have applied). Laziness strikes. Ought to have gone into detail.

I almost cited Full Moon. Great role for Lucchini!

Soft spot, too, for "Le Beau Mariage."

I think I bought the DVD of "Un conte d'automne" used back in NY. Finding film here is harder; but then, many play in theaters, too.
