Crabtree's Kittle House in Westchester.

Does anyone have experience with this restaurant, in Chappaqua, NY? I was recently talking to a Westchester wine shop owner about Blue Hill at Stone Barnes, and how much I enjoy the Hudson Valley in Fall - he asked if I had been to the Kittle House. When I replied that I had not, he said that their list is as comprehensive as Cru or Veritas, but at a third to half the price. Reviews of the restaurant have been mixed, often citing "a revolving door of chefs", and often lackluster service. I don't expect to be blown away by the food, but it does stress Hudson Valley ingredients, and it just has to be in service of the wine.
I just figured that if the list is as serious as suggested, a disorderly may have crossed it's path.

Does the name sound like a bordello to anyone else?

I had a very pleasant meal there about 6 months ago.

I met the current chef. He seemed like a young go-getter, and I was very happy with the food.

I toured the cellar, it is immense, and you could easily get lost down there and not find your way out without help.

I really liked the place. Kind of reminiscent of something you might find on Nantucket, at least to me.

We drank all kinds of stuff, all with lots of age, all dirt cheap.

I would recommend going as a group of six people or so, which is what we did.

Levi, thanks for the insight. I'm looking at putting together a little birthday party for myself - they have a private room next to the cellar for 16, and after rattling off who I'd like to bring, I think we hit that pretty readily. Quite a few Chambers people for sure. Instead of ala carte, I think I'm going to see if they will supplement the 3 course prix-fix with another course or two.

Alternatively, if 16 seems a little too unwieldy, I may just have a rooftop shindig...

BTW, thanks again for the night at Alto with Barnes et al. Drank some serious wine and had really great hospitality - I'll post some tasting notes, sooner or later.
