With a homemade swiss chard, leek and mushroom tart with fresh eggs and goat cheese...

1998 Jean Grivot Vosne-Romane, alc 12.8%, $40: A little clearing of color at the very edge..no browning..damp leaves on the nose..tart bing cherry with a general sour-earthiness that sweetens when matched with food...soft texture and a smooth, long powdery finish...tannins only make a brief appearance at the very end... Drinking well... much better with food... not a lot of upside evident at this moment..? it's peak.

I opened a bottle of this at a mini-jeeb in NYC back in Feb. At that time, I found it to be a bit blocky, but a decent enough example of what it what it was. Jay Miller and SFJoe might have different impressions of it -- I dunno. It was certainly more open (but less appealing) that night than the '98 Drouhin Clos des Chenes that was opened up alongside it. And I agree that it's probably as good as it's going to get at this point.
