TN: 2002 Closel Savennieres Coteaux Moelleux

Ian Fitzsimmons

Ian Fitzsimmons
Color: straw. Smells: intense, tangy nectarine-apricot. Textures: plush, padded, lanolin, luxurious, with penetrating, gum-numbing acids. Flavors: like the smells, very mild sweetness, underlying minerals, touch of invigorating bitterness.

This is a phenomenal, fascinating wine, for those who like such things (which, sadly, excludes my wife). Unusual smell/flavor profile, with shimmering, flashing acids, and just off-dry flavor, though the acids are so intense, there could actually be a fair wallop of RS. It is Moelleux only in its viscosity and richness of texture. It is full of flavor and sensation, and completely out of the box in character. A bit like a van Gough flower painting with energetic strokes, light, idiosyncracy ... but I digress. My feelings are like those of Charlotte as she says to Wilbur, "I think you're spectacular, and that's all that matters."

Has anyone else tasted the '97 lately? I'd like some reassurance that the garbagetastic performance was bottle-specific...because, again, I have one more. Although, the "pour for Joe Perry" idea has now pretty much been transferred to a "pour for Brad Kane" certainty.

Lately? I had this in the Spring time. The bottle was completely devoid of garbage, and offered no form of disappointment whatsoever.

Good to hear, and thanks. I liked it in its youth, and had reasonable hopes for this one. Alas, you read the result.

This is the renamed Cuve Isa. I'm assuming the lack of garbage aromas indicates you're not based in New England?

Procured from fair David et. al. in your lovely burg of Gotham.
