Monster Cappellano

I got started on a bottle of Cappellano's "AB Normal" VdT '03 Barbera a few nights ago. I had picked it up at the CSW Grand Reopening cum LDM tasting.

It was, in a word, awesome, in both the Valley Girl and Wagnerian sense.

Kevin McK was saying that this ended up a VdT on account of Teobaldo holding on to it longer than the DOC allows, and was actually named in homage to Young Frankenstein. It is a monster. The acidity was screamin' like a frightened villager- no one can accuse this wine of being flabby.

Flavors were brambly, spiky blackberries and red raspberry jam. There is indeed a Dr. in the house- Dr. Pepper that is. All this on a massive frame that's limber enough tap out "Puttin' on the Ritz."

The next day it was a bit more contemplative, with the acidity still there, but feeling a bit more like, well, flat Dr. Pepper. Wacky, wild stuff. Highly recommended for the next moose you field dress yourself.

I bought after the Chambers tasting too. Hope it holds up as a "drink" as well as it did as a "taste"! I remember a wow wine with no 2003 disease.
