CWD: '00 Araujo Sauvignon Blanc

A cellar "orphan" that I bought on release
2000 Araujo Eisele Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, alc 14.5%: Not sure what I would get... the color is yellow/green.. the nose is citrusy... the palate is of green melon, slight grassiness and a crisp attack initially that fades softly.. more viscous than expected... actually a quite pleasureable and interesting wine that should have been DOA

"should have been DOA"? Why? Frankly it wouldn't occur to me that it would have faded so soon. Araujo SBs may be the best in the country.

The only Napa SB that I think has a chance for longer life is the Scholium Prince in His Cave (2006) - that will age forever. (It would not oxidize after more than a month!) I can't how much I like this wine, though.

I agree it is a very good California SB (maybe the "best" but maybe not)... my only thought was that a SB from California was so stylistically different than one from the Loire that it would not "last"... guess I was wrong.. hence the note

Jack,
I have a different opinion.
Admittedly, my experience with Araujo, SB's does not include more current vintages but I have never found any of them to be special, let alone the best on the domestic front.
Pricey; yes, indeed. But I don't find anything remarkable in them - correct, maybe.

Good sauvignon blanc from little guys like Kenwood, Groth, Hanna, etc. is just as 'correct. And for my personal taste, Dry Stack can not be beat.
Best, Jim

Jim... gotta agree on Dry Stack.. I have no clue, however (as usual) as to the age-ability of this wine.. any thoughts??

Have they changed the oak regime?

I haven't had an Araujo SB in years, but my memories are DNPIM.
