The 2009 D. Ventura Vina do Burato is awesome. I think I enjoyed that wine more than anything else I drank in October. Although 2009 Coudert Tardive (a perfect wine, now or in 20 years), 2001 Rapet Corton-Charlemagne (wonderfully complex, very light-bodied for the appellation, just a slight hint of oxidation starting which is still delightfully integrated, but it's white Burgundy, so I don't regret opening it now), and 1995 Burlotto Monvigliero (nerd Barolo! How can anyone not love this wine? So much fruit, mace and cinammon and christmas spice on a slender frame of brown-pink roses) all gave it quite a run for its money.
Unlike some of the 2009 Beaujolais, which are seeming to start to require patience, the Burato offers similarly unbelievable glorious fruit and is ready to drink right now.
The other bottle which really inspired me this month was the Germain-Robin XO brandy. Very pleasant, complex nose, and the palate is rich beyond belief.
What were the stars of your October?
