RIP Wolf-Dietrich Salwey

Just found out that Wolf-Dietrich Salwey died in a car-accident on tuesday 69 years old.

I just finished writing the notes of the visit I had at the estate 4 months ago, where he generously opened more than thirty bottles for me. He was a true gentleman and one of the great pioneers of high-quality-wines in Kaiserstuhl. It is good to know that the winery will continue in the good hands of his son Konrad.

Very sorry to hear this. I sat next to him at a dinner in Berlin in 2003 and he was most congenial. The Salwey wines were excellent, too, as I'm sure they will continue to be, as Konrad has been in charge for some time.
