1996 Luigi Pira Barolo Marenca, alc 14.5%, the tag reads $42.99....bought on release....the cork is very tight and reluctant to be extracted...initially musty and a bit worrisome for TCA but this clears quickly and is replaced by a nice dried flower and leafiness that is pleasurable...the palate is a bit more youthful with a lot of fruit showing and still some tannins at the finish....nicely rustic and interesting....it varies from floral to dried/sweet fruit to tarriness to tobacco to interesting spicy notes....
Quite good with a simple meal of linguini with meatballs and a Caesar salad...
