2010 Bordeaux futures! Advice anyone??

The off-Broadway B'x brought in by Kermit and other thoughtful importers is adequate for our needs in this regional style. Although we have been enjoying a rather cheeky 02 Duhart Milon this week. Ymmv, of course.

the real question is: what does bordeaux mean any longer? the style of winemaking has changed so dramatically it's almost like a different region. on top of that, prices are silly. you can buy older vintages at better prices than the pre-release ones. and that's for wine you actually get to put in your cellar today. that said, it is a good vintage (drought = acidity and fruit), and there are probably some cool deals out there. some of the garagiste offerings are tempting.

Interesting article. Thank you.

I'd be curious to know, for those retailers whose sales of Bordeaux dropped from half their business to 5% of their business, what are the wines of which they sold more?

We don't bother with futures anymore, there isn't enough of a demand to warrant the approach. Bordeaux and Burgundy are geting to be less and less of our overall business.
I'll have to ask SF Joe if all the money has "migrated" to China? The economy the way it is, it's hard to understand the prices on many wines.

Lou, We had Eduardo Mouieux as a guest at a dinner a few days ago and he quoted some quite high percentage of the Bordeaux wines that go to China now whereas the percentage going to the US is now low.

The visual impact of impressive labels is apparently a big objective.

What do the cognoscenti here advise as to a purchasing strategy, if any, for the 2010 Bordeaux futures?

Like voting in Chicago: buy early, and often.
