Clos La Coutale Cahors '08

Inky dark (almost purple).
Pleasing aromas albeit a bit light, some leather, dark fruits.
Solid but nimble structure, ample dark fruits and acid, perhaps a bit simplistic, no edges, mineral notes, thankfully less everything than some Argentine Malbecs, excellent food wine.
Moderate length.
Impressive quality/price ratio! [VG - E]

This has been my go-to Malbec for a whole lot of years. While not exactly a stunning wine, it was never intended to rack up points in lieu of drinkability. It used to pop up on closeout lists pretty regularly before the Wine Spectator named it to their Top-100 list a couple of years back but it's still a good value and an ideal Wednesday night wine. It also ages pretty well - I've been enjoying some Coutale from 1999 and 2000 recently.

-Eden (aging inexpensive wines doesn't really pencil out economically when you factor in 10 years of storage costs, but who still uses pencils these days anyway?)

I'm not so sure about that.
Regardless of cost, development is my standard.
